Any device that supports Apple Intelligence:

• iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max or any later iPhone.
• iPad: any iPad with A17 Pro or M1 and later — that covers recent iPad Pro and iPad Air models, and the iPad mini (A17 Pro).

You also need iOS or iPadOS 26 or later. If your device can run Apple Intelligence, it can run ParsleyPDF.

Open Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri and turn on Apple Intelligence. The first time you enable it, iOS downloads the on-device model in the background — this can take a few minutes on Wi-Fi. Once the download finishes, ParsleyPDF's AI features work immediately, even offline.

Version 3.0 is built on Apple's FoundationModels framework — the API that gives apps direct access to the on-device Apple Intelligence model. That framework, at the level ParsleyPDF needs for reliable long-document chat, summaries, and quiz generation, ships with iOS 26. Requiring it is what lets us run everything locally with no server fallback.

Yes — completely. The AI model lives on your device, so chat, summaries, quizzes, search, and scanning all work in airplane mode. ParsleyPDF never needs an internet connection for anything except downloading the app itself.

Nothing leaves your device. Your PDFs, chat history, summaries, and quiz results are stored only in the app's private container on your iPhone or iPad, and all AI processing happens locally via Apple Intelligence. We run no servers, so there is nowhere for your data to go. Deleting the app deletes everything.

No. There is no sign-up, no login, and no email address anywhere in the app. Purchases are tied to your Apple ID through the App Store, which is also how Pro restores on a new device.

No. Your documents are processed by the on-device model and never transmitted to anyone — us, Apple, or any third party — so they cannot be used for training.

Yes. If you have an active Pro subscription from an earlier version, it continues to unlock Pro in 3.0 — nothing changes and no action is needed. You can also cancel your subscription and buy the lifetime unlock instead; Pro stays active through the end of your paid period either way. Manage it in Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions.

One purchase of $29.99, tied to your Apple ID. It never renews and never expires, and it includes all future updates to the app. On a new device, sign in with the same Apple ID and tap Restore Purchases in the app's settings.

All billing is handled by Apple, so refunds go through Apple as well: request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We never receive your payment details and can't process refunds ourselves.

Multi-document chat — a Pro feature — works across up to 3 documents at the same time. Every citation names the document it came from, so you always know which source an answer used. The limit keeps the on-device model fast and its answers well-grounded.

ParsleyPDF works in every language Apple Intelligence supports: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Turkish, and Vietnamese. You can chat about a document in the language of the document or your own.

The scanner uses Apple's Vision framework for on-device OCR. For the best text recognition:

• Scan in good, even light and avoid shadows across the page.
• Hold the phone parallel to the page — the scanner auto-captures when the page is framed.
• Prefer flat pages; press books open near the spine.
• For faint print or handwriting, increase contrast by scanning against a dark background.

Everything — capture, OCR, and PDF creation — happens on your device.

Yes. If a PDF is just scanned images, ParsleyPDF runs on-device OCR automatically when you import it, so chat, summaries, and quizzes work on scanned files too. Recognition quality depends on the scan quality — see the scanning tips above.

Delete a document you're finished with to make room (this only removes it from ParsleyPDF, not from Files or wherever it came from), or upgrade to Pro for an unlimited library.
