User guide

Everything you need to get from install to your first cited answer — and every feature after that. All of it runs on your device.

1. Getting started

ParsleyPDF needs a device that supports Apple Intelligence:

  • iPhone 15 Pro or later, or an iPad with A17 Pro or M1 and later
  • iOS / iPadOS 26 or later
  • Apple Intelligence enabled: go to Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri and switch it on. iOS downloads the on-device model in the background; give it a few minutes on Wi-Fi the first time.

Once the model is downloaded, ParsleyPDF works entirely offline. No account, no sign-in — open the app and import your first document.

2. Importing PDFs

  1. Tap the + button in your library.
  2. Choose Import from Files to pick a PDF from Files, iCloud Drive, or any connected storage provider — or share a PDF to ParsleyPDF from another app via the share sheet.
  3. The app extracts the text and builds a local search index. For most documents this takes a few seconds; nothing is uploaded at any point.

If a PDF contains only scanned images (no selectable text), ParsleyPDF automatically runs on-device OCR during import so the AI can read it.

3. Scanning with the camera

  1. Tap + and choose Scan document. The first time, iOS will ask for camera permission.
  2. Hold your device over the page — the scanner detects edges and captures automatically. Add as many pages as you need.
  3. Tap Save. The pages are converted to text with on-device OCR (Apple's Vision framework) and saved as a searchable PDF in your library.

For the best OCR results:

  • Use bright, even lighting and avoid shadows across the page.
  • Keep the camera parallel to the page rather than at an angle.
  • Flatten curved pages, especially near a book's spine.

4. Chatting with a document

Open a document and tap Chat. Ask anything — definitions, explanations, "where does the author discuss X" — and the on-device model answers using your document's text, with page citations you can tap to jump to the source.

  • Ask follow-up questions; the conversation keeps its context.
  • Tap any page citation to open that page in the viewer.
  • Chats are saved locally per document and available offline.

AI answers are an educational aid, not a source of truth. When something matters, tap the citation and verify against the page itself.

5. Summaries

Open a document and tap Summarize. You get a structured overview — key points, sections, and takeaways — generated on-device in seconds. Summaries are saved with the document, so they're there when you come back to review.

6. Quizzes

Tap Quiz on any document to generate multiple-choice questions from its content. After each answer you'll see an explanation and a page reference, so a wrong answer becomes a study lead instead of a dead end. Quiz results are stored locally so you can retake and track your understanding.

7. Multi-document chat Pro

With Pro, you can chat across up to 3 documents at once — ideal for comparing papers or pulling a topic together from several lecture decks.

  1. From the library, choose Multi-document chat.
  2. Select up to 3 documents and start asking.
  3. Each citation names both the document and the page, so you always know where an answer came from.

8. Managing your library

  • The free tier holds 3 documents; Pro removes the limit.
  • To remove a document, swipe on it (or long-press) and choose Delete. This removes it from ParsleyPDF only — the original in Files or elsewhere is untouched.
  • Deleting a document also deletes its chats, summaries, and quiz results.
  • There is no cloud copy: back up anything important with your normal device backup (iCloud or computer).

9. Purchases & restoring Pro

  • Buy Pro: in the app, open Settings › ParsleyPDF Pro and choose the $29.99 lifetime unlock or the $4.99/month subscription. Apple processes the payment.
  • Restore on a new device: sign in with the same Apple ID, then tap Settings › Restore Purchases in the app.
  • Cancel the subscription: Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions › ParsleyPDF Pro on your device. Access continues until the end of the paid period.
  • Refunds: handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • Subscribed before 3.0? Your active subscription keeps unlocking Pro automatically.

10. Troubleshooting

  • "Apple Intelligence is not available": check that your device is supported (iPhone 15 Pro or later; iPad with A17 Pro or M1 and later), that you're on iOS 26 or later, and that Apple Intelligence is enabled in Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri. If you just enabled it, wait for the model download to finish.
  • AI features feel slow on first use: the system may still be preparing the model. It's fastest after the first few requests and when your device isn't in Low Power Mode.
  • Poor answers on a scanned PDF: the OCR may have struggled with the scan quality. Re-scan with better lighting, or import a text-based version if you have one.
  • Pro didn't activate: tap Settings › Restore Purchases in the app while signed into the Apple ID that made the purchase.
  • Anything else: email tezaapps@gmail.com with your device model and iOS version — we aim to reply within 48 hours.
