What is ParsleyPDF?
ParsleyPDF is an AI-powered PDF assistant for iPhone and iPad. Import your PDF documents and use artificial intelligence to chat about them, generate summaries, and take quizzes — all while keeping your documents private on your device.
How does ParsleyPDF work?
When you import a PDF, ParsleyPDF extracts the text and stores it locally on your device. When you use AI features (chat, summary, quiz), the relevant text is sent to Google's Gemini AI through our secure servers for processing. The AI generates a response and sends it back. No document data is stored on our servers.
What types of PDFs work best?
ParsleyPDF works best with text-based PDFs such as academic papers, textbooks, reports, articles, and legal documents. Scanned PDFs (image-only) will not work unless they have an embedded text layer from OCR processing.
Is ParsleyPDF available on iPad?
Yes. ParsleyPDF is a universal app that works on both iPhone and iPad, with an interface optimized for each device.
Privacy & Security
Are my documents uploaded to the cloud?
No. Your documents are stored only on your device. When you use AI features, the document text is sent to Google's Gemini AI for processing. Data may be temporarily cached to improve performance, then automatically deleted. It is never used for AI model training.
Does ParsleyPDF track me?
No. ParsleyPDF uses anonymous authentication — no email, name, or personal information is required. We do not use advertising identifiers, analytics SDKs, or any form of cross-app tracking. Our Apple Privacy Nutrition Label confirms: no tracking.
Can ParsleyPDF access other files on my device?
No. ParsleyPDF can only access PDF files you explicitly import using the iOS document picker. It cannot access your photos, contacts, messages, or any other data on your device.
What happens to my data if I delete the app?
Uninstalling ParsleyPDF permanently deletes all your documents, chat history, summaries, and quiz results from your device. Anti-abuse counters stored in the iOS Keychain — including PDF import count, quiz generation count, and daily AI query count — persist after uninstall (this is an iOS behavior, not ours). Is my data encrypted?
Yes. Documents stored on your device are protected by iOS File Protection (encrypted at rest with your device passcode). Data sent to our servers for AI processing is transmitted over HTTPS (encrypted in transit).
AI Features
How accurate are AI responses?
AI responses are generated by Google's Gemini AI and are provided for educational reference only. While generally helpful, they may contain errors, inaccuracies, or omissions. Always verify AI-generated content against your original source documents.
What is AI Chat?
AI Chat lets you ask questions about your PDF and receive answers with page citations. The AI reads your document's text and responds based on its contents. You can have a back-and-forth conversation — the AI remembers context from your recent messages.
What are Document Summaries?
Document Summaries provide an AI-generated overview of your PDF, including key themes, a structured summary, and notable details. Summaries are generated once per document and saved for quick reference.
How do Quizzes work?
Quizzes generate multiple-choice questions based on your document's content. Each question has four options with one correct answer, plus an explanation referencing the source material. Great for testing your understanding of academic papers or textbook chapters.
What is Multi-Document Chat?
Multi-Document Chat (Pro only) lets you select up to 5 documents and chat across all of them simultaneously. The AI can compare, contrast, and synthesize information from multiple sources. Useful for literature reviews and research.
What is Ephemeral Mode?
Ephemeral Mode lets you process a PDF without saving it to your library. The document is held in memory for the current session only and is not persisted to your device's storage. Ideal for sensitive documents you want to analyze once without leaving a trace.
What does the Confidential badge mean?
The Confidential badge appears on documents opened in Ephemeral Mode. It indicates the document is temporary and will not be saved when you close it.
Free Tier & Limits
What can I do for free?
The free tier lets you try ParsleyPDF with the following limits:

Are free tier limits per session or lifetime?
PDF import limits and quiz generation limits are lifetime — they persist across app sessions and even across reinstalls (tracked in your device's Keychain). Daily AI request limits reset at midnight UTC, but the counter itself is also stored in your device's Keychain so it cannot be reset by reinstalling the app within the same UTC day. Question limits are per document.
What happens when I reach a free tier limit?
You'll see a message indicating you've reached the limit, with an option to upgrade to ParsleyPDF Pro for unlimited access.
Can I reset my free tier limits?
No. Free tier limits are designed to provide a fair trial of the app. They cannot be reset by reinstalling the app or clearing data.

How much does ParsleyPDF Pro cost?
ParsleyPDF Pro is offered in two plans:

Both plans unlock the same features. Pick monthly for the best ongoing value and a 7-day trial, or weekly for short-term needs like an exam week or a paper deadline.
Both plans auto-renew through Apple's In-App Purchase system.
How does the 7-day free trial work?
The 7-day free trial is available to first-time subscribers of the Monthly plan, via Apple's Introductory Offer program:
- The trial starts the moment you subscribe — you get full Pro access immediately.
- You will not be charged during the 7-day trial.
- You may cancel any time during the trial to avoid any charge.
- If you do not cancel, your subscription converts automatically to $6.99/month at the end of the trial.
- The trial is available once per Apple ID.
- You will receive an in-app notice approximately 24 hours before the trial converts.
The Weekly plan does not include a free trial — billing begins immediately.
What do I get with Pro?
ParsleyPDF Pro removes the strict free tier limits:
- Unlimited PDF imports
- Up to 500 pages per PDF
- Unlimited questions per document
- No character limit on messages
- Unlimited quiz generations
- Multi-document chat with up to 5 documents

How do I subscribe?
Open ParsleyPDF, then navigate to the upgrade prompt or Settings > Subscription. Choose Monthly or Weekly and confirm with Apple.
How do I cancel my subscription?
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Tap your Apple ID > Subscriptions
- Select ParsleyPDF Pro > Cancel Subscription
You can also use the "Manage Subscription" link in ParsleyPDF's Settings tab.
What happens when I cancel?
You keep Pro access until the end of your current billing period. After that, you revert to the free tier. Your documents and data remain on your device — nothing is deleted.
Can I switch between Monthly and Weekly?
Yes. Go to iPhone Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions > ParsleyPDF Pro and choose a different plan. Apple handles the switch — upgrading from weekly to monthly takes effect immediately with proration; downgrading from monthly to weekly takes effect at your next renewal date.
How do I request a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com to request a refund for your subscription.
Can I restore a previous purchase?
Yes. If you reinstall the app or switch devices, go to Settings > Subscription and tap "Restore Purchases." Your Pro subscription will be restored if it's still active.
Troubleshooting
AI features aren't working
- Check your internet connection — AI features require an active connection
- Try closing and reopening the app
- If the issue persists, wait a few minutes and try again (you may have hit a temporary rate limit)
My PDF won't import
- Ensure the PDF is text-based (not a scanned image without OCR)
- Check that the PDF is not password-protected or DRM-restricted
- Verify the PDF is within the page limit (10 pages free, 500 pages Pro)
- Free users: check if you've reached the 3-PDF import limit
Chat says my message is too long
Free tier users are limited to 500 characters per message. Upgrade to ParsleyPDF Pro for unlimited message length.
Quiz questions seem incorrect
AI-generated quiz content may occasionally contain errors. Always verify answers against your source document. If a question seems wrong, refer to the cited page numbers in the explanation.
I was charged after cancelling
Apple processes subscription renewals 24 hours before the billing period ends. If you cancelled less than 24 hours before renewal, you may have been charged for one more period. Contact Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com for a refund.
